How do humans and other forms of intelligence make sense of the world? This issue presents fourteen artists that probe the co-evolving relationships between human, nature, and machines.

So, here we are. At the peak of anthropocentrism, where humanity has finally achieved the remarkable feat of destroying the very systems that keep us alive.The world is literally burning, forests ablaze, temperatures soaring, ecosystems collapsing, while liberal universalism appears to be gasping its last breath… The future looks increasingly dystopian: rising authoritarianism, global conflict.

The perfect time, we thought, to launch an international magazine.
An art magazine, no less.One dedicated to diversity, and the vibrant, interconnected future we should be building.

“We are not alone”, Refresh magazine's first issue steps directly into this conversation, which takes on a new dimension in our post-digital age, where the boundaries between human, machine, and nature become increasingly porous.
In this post-anthropocentric and post-digital vision, the question is no longer about humanity's place in nature, but about how entities can coexist and co-evolve in a way that sustains the flourishing of life in all its diverse forms
“We are not alone” features fourteen 21st-century artists at the forefront of these hybrid ecologies, charting a world where human and non-human, organic and digital converge in new ways.
They invite us to engage in a dialogue about how we navigate our increasingly hybrid world.

This is contemporary art for a world that's already changed.
